With the holidays quickly approaching, it is important to take steps to keep yourself and family members safe and healthy! Here are 5 quick tips to help keep your holidays happy and healthy:
1. Get your vaccinations or screenings to assess for illness.
Vaccinations help prevent diseases and save lives. Everyone 6 months and older are eligible to get a flu vaccine each year. COVID-19 vaccinations are also effective in helping to prevent the spread of the virus. If you are unable to receive vaccinations, get tested before seeing family to ensure you are not spreading illness unknowingly.
2. Wash your hands often.
Washing your hands with warm soap and water for up to 20 seconds is effective in helping to prevent the spread of germs.
3. Dress appropriately to stay warm and dry.
Wear appropriate clothing if you plan to be outside: light, warm layers, gloves, hats, scarves, and waterproof boots.
4. Manage stress.
Give yourself a break if you feel stressed out, overwhelmed, and out of control. Some of the best ways to manage stress are to find support, connect socially, exercise and get plenty of sleep.
5. Eat healthy and stay active.
It’s easy to over indulge during the holiday season, but it is important to make sure you are eating plenty of fruits and vegetables, staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water, and staying active by exercising at least 3-5 days per week.
